Event tech company, Ex Ordo has appointed Giuliano Maciocci as Chief Product Officer from January 2022. Giuliano joins the team at Ex Ordo from eLife and brings significant experience in academic publishing and researcher support systems.
Ex Ordo was founded in 2008 when student, Paul Killoran, was tasked with helping his supervisor run an academic conference and could not find software to manage abstract submissions. He coded his own, which has since grown in scale and ambition, and has hosted thousands of conferences for universities and scientific societies.
Since early 2020, digital transformation has accelerated and the way that communities gather has been reevaluated. Throughout it all, Ex Ordo has risen to the challenges faced, in particular, by academic event organisers. They support end-to-end conference delivery, from managing calls for papers and manuscript submission to hosting dynamic events for large numbers of participants. The future of academic conferences is in flux. And the team at Ex Ordo is geared up to build the platforms that scholarly societies will need to connect in this new era of events.
Commenting on the appointment, Paul Killoran, founder and CEO of Ex Ordo says: “The appointment of Giuliano Maciocci as Chief Product Officer is an exciting start to 2022 for the Ex Ordo team. With his background leading on product and user experience for eLife as they moved from a startup to an established industry innovator, we know he can help us connect researchers and deliver extraordinary events. Welcome on board!”
Giuliano Maciocci says: “Now more than ever, researchers need conference software and systems to deliver a seamless experience, from peer review and registration to the online plenaries, discussions and seminars that make up a virtual conference. Ex Ordo leads the field for scholarly events and I’m over the moon to be part of the team as they take their vision to the next level.”
