Ex Ordo is delighted to announce the appointment of Laura Harvey as Chief Customer Officer, as it sets the tone for what is going to be a very exciting year for the company. Bringing more than 12 years of scholarly expertise spanning editorial, commercial, and operational roles, Harvey will report directly to Ex Ordo founder and CEO, Paul Killoran. Building upon her deep understanding of the scholarly communications landscape, Harvey will oversee the entire customer journey for Ex Ordo’s society partners, leading the company’s sales, marketing, customer support, and customer success teams.
With a background in chemistry, and a passion for improving research and research communication, Harvey started her career in editorial roles at Future Science Group and the British Institute of Radiology. In 2016, she joined Publons as part of the original team who took the company from start-up to scale-up, through the acquisition by Clarivate in 2017. In her most recent role, she oversaw the delivery of enterprise SaaS solutions at Clarivate, supporting a significant proportion of the global research workflow with various products, including ScholarOne.
Founded in 2011, Ex Ordo is a connected conference management system, designed specifically for medical, technical, scientific, and academic events. As scholarly societies increasingly adopt online tools to support and enhance their events, Ex Ordo continues to work closely with these organisations to understand the unique needs of their communities, and develop innovative solutions to help support and expand their membership in the years to come.
“We have an extraordinarily challenging and exciting road ahead of us; one that will shape the future infrastructure for scholarly communities and events,” said Killoran. “In order to succeed in our mission, we need leaders with incredible vision, insight, and tenacity. Last year, we made some key appointments, including Paul Peters as Non-executive Board Chair, and Giuliano Maciocci as Chief Product Officer. Together, they bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and connections from their previous roles at Hindawi and eLife Sciences respectively, to help us scale our scholarly technology platform. And now we welcome Laura to the team.
“Laura is a scholarly leader like no other. She is a scientist at heart, with a track record in scaling scholarly start-ups, and managing enterprise SaaS solutions for a global research audience. Her experience working with societies, researchers, and publishers will drive our culture of being a customer-first organisation, helping societies to achieve a more sustainable future for their communities and their events.”
“I’m thrilled to be joining Ex Ordo as Chief Customer Officer at such an exciting time for the organisation, and the industry,” said Harvey. “The last few years have seen momentum building to make research conferences a truly seamless, integrated part of the scholarly lifecycle. I’ve been lucky enough to build a career in this sector, supporting publishers, researchers, and societies in the curation, recording, sharing, and preservation of the world’s scholarly knowledge. I can’t wait to start working with the Ex Ordo team and their customers, to deliver the next generation of research conferences.”
